Cubs starting pitcher Edward Cabrera was carted off the field after the fifth inning due to an injury in Chicago's Tuesday road game against the New York Mets.

The Cubs later announced that Cabrera sustained a left hamstring/adductor strain.

With two on, two outs and the Cubs holding a 7-2 lead, Jared Young hit a ground ball that got by first baseman Michael Busch and was fielded by second baseman Nico Hoerner on the right field grass. Cabrera raced over to cover first, did a split to catch the throw and felt pain in his leg while recording the out.

Cabrera was unable to put weight on his leg and was helped to the cart by a trainer and manager Craig Counsell.

Cabrera allowed two runs on three hits in five innings. He entered the night 4-4 with a 5.21 ERA in 13 starts during his first season for the Cubs after being acquired in the offseason from the Miami Marlins.

Earlier in the game, Cabrera was hit in the leg fielding a comebacker to the mound by Young. Last week he exited a start against the Colorado Rockies because of cramping in his right (pitching) hand.
