Coby Mayo hit a three-run home run and the Baltimore Orioles, who didn't have a hit until the seventh inning, beat the visiting New York Yankees 3-2 in the opener of a three-game series on Monday night.

Mayo's homer came on the third pitch from reliever Brent Headrick after Ryan Weathers had silenced the Orioles for the first six-plus innings.

Baltimore, despite producing only three hits, won its second game in a row by notching just its fourth victory in a 12-game stretch. The Orioles began to make amends after they were four-game sweep victims of the Yankees earlier in the month in New York.

Ben Rice's two-run home run provided the Yankees' offense, but New York lost its fourth game in a row.

Weathers entered the seventh with a no-hitter until Adley Rutschman's lead-off single. After a groundout and a walk to Tyler O'Neill, Weathers was replaced.

Mayo, who was a late replacement in the lineup at designated hitter, swatted his fourth home run of the season.

Dietrich Enns (1-0) was the winning pitcher with 1 2/3 innings of relief. Anthony Nunez pitched the ninth for his second save.

Orioles starter Brandon Young worked 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

Weathers struck out nine in his 6 1/3 innings. Headrick (3-1) took the loss.

Weathers walked Taylor Ward to begin the bottom of the first and then retired 13 consecutive batters before a walk to Mayo in the fifth.

Rice's 13th homer of the season came with one out in the third inning.

Rice, who singled in the first inning, had the game's only two hits through the first five innings. He was retired on a lineout to center field for the final out in the top of the fifth.

New York's Aaron Judge led off the sixth with a double and reached third base with one out, but he didn't score. Teammate Max Schuemann doubled with one out in the seventh and was stranded.
