Isaac Paredes had a go-ahead two-run double and the visiting Houston Astros rallied for an 8-6 win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch remains one win shy of becoming the 67th manager in major league history to reach 1,000 career victories.

Down 6-5 in the eighth, the Astros were sparked by Yainer Diaz's leadoff single. With two out, Christian Vasquez hit a single before Jeremy Pena knocked in Diaz with another base hit. An error by center fielder James Outman advanced the runners and Paredes then drilled a double to right off Will Vest (3-5).

Pena finished with three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Christian Walker supplied four hits, one run scored and one RBI and Cam Smith delivered a two-run homer. Diaz finished with two hits.

Kai-Wei Teng started for Houston and gave up five runs, four earned, in 3 2/3 innings. AJ Blubaugh (4-2) pitched two innings of scoreless relief and got the victory.

Josh Hader pitched the ninth for his seventh save.

Kerry Carpenter led the Detroit offense with the team's first grand slam of the season. Hao-Yu Lee added a solo homer. Spencer Torkelson had a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Framber Valdez, facing his former team for the second time this season, started for Detroit and gave up four runs on eight hits over six innings.

Smith staked the Astros to an early lead with his two-run homer in the second. Houston added a run in the third that came home on Jose Altuve's double-play grounder.

Carpenter gave Detroit the lead in the bottom of the inning with his grand slam off Teng. The teams traded runs in the fourth, as Pena tied the score with an RBI single and Torkelson gave Detroit the lead back with his run-scoring double.

Lee's homer in the fifth made it 6-4. Walker made it a one-run game with an RBI single in the seventh.
