The New York Yankees announced on Tuesday that left-hander Max Fried will be reinstated from the injured list and start the nightcap of Wednesday's doubleheader against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates.

Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole will start the opener, made necessary by a rainout on Tuesday.

Fried last pitched on May 13 and threw 61 pitches over three innings in a 7-0 loss to the Orioles. One day later, he was placed on the injured list with a bone bruise in his throwing elbow.

The 32-year-old made one rehab start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday. He threw 52 pitches over three innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Fried fanned three and did not walk a batter.

Fried, who posted a 19-5 record and 2.86 in his first season in the Bronx a year ago, was scheduled to make an additional rehab start, but the club accelerated his timeline.

The 10-year veteran was flourishing in 2026 before the outing in Baltimore. He enters Wednesday night's matchup 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and a .199 opponents' batting average.

Fried is 4-1 with a 3.94 ERA in eight previous outings against the Pirates.
