The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired outfielder Alek Thomas from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday in exchange for minor league outfielder Jose Requena.

The Dodgers designated outfielder Michael Siani for assignment in order to make room on the 40-man roster for Thomas.

"It's part of the game, and I think Alek understands that, but it's hard to say goodbye to him and his wife, Kailey," Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said. "They're great people. We've known them. We've watched them grow up. We watch them get engaged and get married, and when you have to say goodbye to them that's painful. So I told him it hurt as much for me as it did, probably, for him."

Thomas, 26, was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Friday after batting .181 with two homers and 10 RBIs in 28 games this season.

He has a .230 career batting average and a .273 on-base percentage to go along with 31 homers and 143 RBIs in 448 career games. He was selected by Arizona in the second round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft.

Thomas belted four homers during the 2023 postseason, helping the Diamondbacks advance to the World Series. They fell to the Texas Rangers in five games.

Requena, 17, was signed by the Dodgers on Jan. 15 out of Caracas, Venezuela. He did not appear in a professional game with the organization.
